This is some type of strange plant that began to grow
rather rapidly under some spruce trees. I did not notice any
blooms but they are nice looking plants which could serve as

- The main clue is this sentence - " This is some type
of strange plant that began to grow rather rapidly under
some spruce tree." I would be interested to know what her
yard looks like today! I suspect what she has is the
beginning of Dog-strangling Vine..... or its cousin. These
are some of the nastiest invasive plants to show up in the midwest in recent times. Check the TNC invasives site for
more horror stories. As a milkweed, its seeds blow in the
wind for a great distance and germinate easily. Black
swallow-wort has been accurately named. Check these urls:
