Master Gardeners took part in Beautifying the Entrance to the Macomb
County 4-H Exhibit Youth Building at the Armada Fair |
(1) |
This is where all the Youth bring many of their
100 projects,
Photography, Gardening, Woodworking, etc, Many People pass through this
building to see all these projects that the Youth have and the entrance needed to be perked up.
Jan Weber from the 4-H asked the Master Gardeners to help out, with that
project. Martha Nitz M.G. '99 asked Weigand Nursery on Romeo Plank to donate some
Shrubs -Flowers - Grasses for this Entrance, Weigands were generous and said they could be planted later at the "Octagon House" Washington Twp. They look great with the
benches that were donated.

On Monday August 14th The Macomb County Master Gardeners visited at an
unusual Vegetable garden in Fraser. |
 |
We
visited the home of Joe & JoAnne DiStefano and saw how Joe gets a head start on all the tomatoes in the county
by placing 18 mil. plastic under them to warm up the soil and create their own
micro-climate. Joe uses tile to drain away excess water.
The tomatoes have never to be watered since the moisture stays in the
ground and there were no weeds. We all liked that idea that this garden is very
ecology friendly for all his vegetables.
Jan Wilson a neighbor was nice enough to let us know about this garden and it was an
experience that we will remember to try for next season.
Master Gardeners Gary & Betty Pieper Rich & Gerri Hamerick Bill & Mary
Forsyth- Martin, Lydia, Kristine Kamemsky Shirley Moore, Jan Bryant &
Lucille Day were very impressed with Joe and JoAnne's most unusual
vegetable garden.
We want to thank you for inviting us and your generoushospitality too.

Wednesday August 16 MG's visited two Garden's in St Clair Shores. |
 |
Master Gardener Shirley
Moore, Henrietta Baczewski, Peg Toles, Natalee Neely, Marilyn Assiff,
Sandra Richards, Lucille Day and many others visited two Garden's in St Clair Shores.
Friends Gloria Benoit and Peg Toles from the class of '99 opened their
beautiful gardens. Lots of brick pavers, fountains, ponds, statuettes
composting and Oriental collections.
You can tell that they have devoted years of collecting to gather all the plants and
combine them with their creativity. Also many shared plants like "Kiss me over the Garden Gate" were putting
on quite a show for us.
