Money 2000 is a program designed to help you increase your savings and trim your debt. You can set financial goals and improve your financial fitness by doing the exercises and studying in the privacy of your own home. The program includes a membership card, a money management start-up packet, subscription to a quarterly financial fitness newsletter, and a computerized analysis that shows you the best ways to repay your debt. Call today for more information. There is a fee for the program which is due at the time of registration.

Starting a Home-based Business

Starting a Home-based Business is a program sponsored by the Lapeer County MSU Extension, Small Business Development Center and Lapeer Development Corporation. The six-week series of workshops teaches participants how to develop a business plan, where to seek professional help and provides information on record keeping, advertising, marketing, pricing, taxes, banking, zoning, business law, and business loans. Pre-registration is required. The fee for the program is payable at registration.

The Home Buyers Workshop

Home Buyers Workshop is designed for consumers, particularly first-time home buyers. The workshop provides an opportunity to meet professionals in the real estate business, banking industry and representatives from homeowners insurance agencies. The objective of the workshop is to de-mystify the process of financing and buying a home. The workshop is offered quarterly and is free of charge.

Better Kid Care for Child Care Providers

Better Kid Care is a satellite training series which is co-sponsored by Penn State Cooperative Extension Service and Lapeer County MSU Extension Service. The trainings are designed for the family day care provider as well as child care centers. Topics covered include: block play, kids and discipline, reading before six years of age, legal issues, using a variety of materials for artwork, and many more. Pre-registration is required for the monthly trainings. There is a fee for these programs.

 

Second Time Around – Grandparents Raising Their Grandchildren

Second Time Around – Grandparents Raising Their Grandchildren is a support group for grandparents who have accepted the task of providing care for their grandchildren. The group meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 PM. Free child care is provided. This is an opportunity for grandparents to meet, share their concerns and receive caring support in their endeavors from their peers. The group is currently meeting at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapeer.

Parent Education

Lapeer County MSU Extension is a part of a county-wide effort to provide parent education to everyone in Lapeer County. There are a number of educational videos available on parent education. The parent education program includes workshops for 0-5 years, 4-12 years, 12-18 years, and Building Strong Adolescents. These programs are offered in a variety of locations in Lapeer County throughout the year.

Food Safety and Food Preservation

Up-to-date research-based information is available in the area of food safety and food preservation. Information about food safety, food storage, how to can or freeze fruits and vegetables, and many more topics is available.

Family Nutrition Program (FNP)

The Family Nutrition Program is designed to improve your skills in basic nutrition, food safety, menu planning, selecting and preparing food, and stretching your food dollar. This program is designed for families having trouble making ends meet to feed themselves or their families nutritious meals. Classes are taught in groups or in one-on-one settings. This program is provided free of charge to Lapeer County residents.
