National Conference: Global Perspectives: Internationalizing Extension
March 24-27, 2003

View of participants during final morning session, Thursday March 27. A group of 91 Extension and University professionals from throughout the USA participated in the conference, not including a number of guest resource persons from Michigan State University. A list of the full names and addresses of registrants and resource persons is available on this website.

Dr. Margaret (Maggie) Bethel (table in background to the right) joined the group both for the opening session and came to learn about our work during the final luncheon. Pictured here are participants from Illinois, Indiana, Florida, Maryland and Nebraska..

A number of Directors of International Programs in Colleges of Agriculture supported the conference and served as resource persons. Pictured to the left is David Hansen of The Ohio State University and Deanna Behring, Penn State University. (Harriett Paul, Florida A&M is pictured above.)
A number of states sent teams of two or more individuals to the conference. Pictured on the right is a Penn State Team, led by Director of Extension, Ted Alter.

Lively discussion occurred at every opportunity, especially during the meals and breaks.

One of the important benefits of the conference was meeting people, networking and gaining access to new resources. Pictured at the right is ACDI-VOCA representative, Sue Schram giving her address to a graduate student from the University of Florida. A list of contacts to ACDI-VOCA and other partnering organizations was made available to participants.

Every conference has people behind the scenes that make the event run smoothy. Sandra Bauer of the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources Education and Communications Systems at MSU served that role as conference coordinator. She managed the registration process, coordinated the logistics, organized the meals and various events and was the ever-ready trouble shooter. THANKS Sandi!
