Colocasia esculenta--Taro

Height: 3 ft Spacing: 3 ft
Type: tender bulb

Comments: Taro is a tropical plant that must be treated as a
tender bulb. In cold areas, it must be dug in the fall and
then stored as is done for cannas. An ample supply of soil
moisture is necessary. Taro is often suggested for use near
water. The tubers should be potted and started indoors in
late winter or early spring. The large leaves give the
plant a coarse texture.

Propagation: The roots can be divided in the spring when the
plants are potted.

Cultivars:
'Jet Black Wonder' - The leaves are very dark green along
the veins with lighter green between the veins.
