Allium schoenoprasum--Chives

Flowers: Purple

Comments: Chives grow best in full sun and a well-drained
soil. Cut off the leaves periodically to keep the plant
vigorous. Chives may be potted for use indoors during
winter. Plant chives in a well-drained soil exposed to
full sun.

Propagation: Plants are grown from seed or division.
Divisions, consisting of 2 to 3 bulbs, are planted 1 foot
apart in late March or early April. Seed is sown in
spring then thinned to 3 inches apart. Transplant
seedlings the following spring.

Cultivars:
'Schnittlauch' - A dwarf only 8 inches tall (Vis. 1).
