Ornamental Plants plus Version 3.0 - 00002103
11/12/99
Cimicifuga simplex
Hardiness Zones: 3 to 8
Height: 4 ft Spacing: 3 ft
Type: perennial
Flowers: White
Comments: This Russian native is grown for its spikes of
white flowers. Flowering occurs in autumn when few other
plants are in bloom. Provide a shaded site with moist
soil. The plants do not spread or self-seed and so plants
are seldom invasive.
Propagation: Division but the plants are not easy to
divide because they have deep root systems and do not
establish quickly.
Cultivars:
'White Pearl' - Longer spikes of white flowers.
atropurpurea - Purplish-red foliage (Vis. 1).
