Zantedeschia--Calla Lily

Type: tender bulb
Flowers: White, red, yellow, pink
Comments: Hybrids of this cut flowers have become
available that provide flower colors other than white.
These can be grown in gardens or in large containers. The
flowers can be rather intense shades or pastels. When cut,
the flowers will last for up to two weeks. Cut flowers
will use a large amount of water so provide a large vase.
The leaves are often speckled with white. The plants can
be grown in full sun or partial shade. Partial shade is
preferred and may encourage the development of longer
flower stems. Calla Lily may be grown in moist soils and
near water.
At the end of the growing season dig the rhizomes and
store them as you would dahlias. Propagation is by
removing offsets from mature rhizomes.
Cultivars:
'Black-eyed Beauty' - Cream colored flowers have a dark
eye.
'Cameo' - Peach-colored flowers become orange.
'Dominique' - Red flowers and speckled leaves.
'Elegance' - Rose-pink flowers.
'Flame' - Red flowers open yellow then become red.
'Little Suzy' - Pink flowers and speckled leaves.
