Eucommia ulmoides--Hardy Rubber Tree
Hardiness Zone: 5 to 7
Height: 50 ft Spread: 50 ft Form: rounded
Type: deciduous tree
Annual Growth Rate: 12 to 18 inches
Comments: Hardy rubber tree is grown primarily as a
relatively pest free shade tree. There are no outstanding
ornamental traits although some experts consider the
summer foliage (Vis. 1) to be attractive. Avoid poorly
drained sites or those where the soil is likely to become
compacted. The elm-like foliage turns greenish yellow in
the fall. Hardy rubber tree is usually selected for its
reliability rather than its beauty.
