Abies lasiocarpa--Rocky Mountain Fir

Annual Growth Rate: 12 to 18 inches

Comments: Rocky Mountain Fir has one-inch, bluish-green
needles. It is native to Northwest North America and
throughout the Rocky Mountains. In the wild it is a
narrow, spire-like tree but less so in cultivation. The
tree grows best in moist soils.


Cultivars:
var. arizonica - A variety only 40 feet tall with deep
blue needles and a slow growth rate. The bark is
white and corky when mature.
var. arizonica 'Argentea' ('Arizonica Glauca') - Silvery
foliage.
'Arizonica Compacta' - A dwarf with silvery-blue foliage.
'Glauca' - Blue needles.
'Glauca Compacta' - A slow-growing dwarf with blue
needles and a conical shape.
'Green Globe' - A rounded, dwarf (Vis. 1) somewhat flat
on top.
