Euonymus Scale
These scales can kill euonymus and other shrubs and vines.
The scales overwinter as grayish colored females. The
females lay eggs in early spring. These hatch in early
June and the immature crawlers move to other parts of the
plant. The male scales are snow white and more easily
noticed than the females.
Plants can be heavily infested before the insects are
seen. Stems of infested plants may be heavily encrusted.
The lower surface of the leaves may have insects feeding
on it with the upper surface showing yellow spots. Large
portions of the plant may die or the entire plant may die.
