Arborvitae Leaf Miner
The arborvitae leaf miner can cause severe foliage browning.
The insect overwinters as a larva inside the mined out
foliage (Vis. 1). The adult moths lay eggs during late June
and early July.
The larvae mine out the foliage causing it to turn brown.
The injury can be identified by holding foliage up to
strong light. The mined out area will appear light or
translucent. The adult emergence holes can also be seen.
