Scarab beetles
Scarab beetles have hard, stout bodies. The last three to
seven segments of the antennae are leaflike and capable of
opening or closing. Familiar members of this family
include the May or June beetles, Japanese beetles and rose
chafers (Vis. 1). The larvae or grubs develop in the soil.
They are thick, C-shaped white grubs with well developed
thoracic legs. Mature adults and larvae range in size
from 4 to 30 mm.
