Sophora japonica--Japanese Pagoda Tree

Hardiness Zones: 4 to 7
Height: 60 ft Spread: 60 ft Form: rounded
Type: deciduous tree
Annual Growth Rate: 12 to 18 inches
Flowers: white

Comments: Sophora (Vis. 1) tolerates city conditions, heat,
and drought. The tree prefers a sunny open location. A
yellow dye can be made by boiling the dried flowers and
buds in water. The greenish white flowers (Vis. 2) are
produced in abundance in mid- to late summer.

Cultivars:
'Princeton Upright' TM - A compact, upright branching
habit makes the tree a suitable choice as a street
tree.
'Regent' TM - A fast-growing tree with a large oval
crown. The tree blooms at a younger age than the
species.
