Comments: Sumacs are among the most adaptable shrubs but
may be regarded as weeds. Staghorn Sumac grows rapidly,
tolerates most exposures and poor soil but is short-lived.
The main ornamental feature is bright red (Vis. 1) fall
color. Keep suckers controlled to keep the plant within its
allotted space. The red fruits are produced in terminal
panicles.
Cultivars:
'Laciniata' - A cut-leaved (Vis. 3) form that can attain
an unusual shape (Vis. 2) and develop orange fall
color.
