Primula japonica--Japanese Primrose

Flowers: Pink, red, white

Comments: This primrose produces whorls (Vis. 1) of flowers
in late spring and early summer. The flowers open in tiers
on a tall stalk. This flowering habit prolongs the blooming
period and raises the height from 6 inches to 2 feet.
Japanese primrose grows best in shade or semi shade.
Provide a moist, loamy soil, however, the plant tolerates
bog conditions. The plant self seeds, particularly in
moist growing conditions. Provide winter protection.

Propagation: Seed or division. Seed can be sown soon
after they ripen. Some forms of Japanese Primrose come
true from seed.

Cultivars:
'Redfield Strain' - White, pink, red, purple flowers.
