Pinus parviflora--Japanese White Pine

Comments: Japanese White Pine is a slow-growing tree that
can be used for its salt tolerance and as a specimen with
its graceful silhouette.

Cultivars:
'Adcock's Dwarf' - A slow grower with clusters of
needles on the branch tips (Vis. 7).
'Al Fordham' - A very small plant with curved needles.
'Ara-kawa' - The needles (Vis. 4) are thin and dark
green, the plant has very rough bark.
'Bergmani' - A compact, spreading plant with long,
twisted needles. In spring, red cones are produced.
'Brevifolia' - A slow growing cultivar with short,
stiff needles.
'Ei-ko-nishiki' - Plants develop corky bark.
'Fu-ku-zumi' - A spreading, irregularly shaped plant with
twisted, bluish needles (Vis. 1).
'Gimborn's Ideal' - A dwarf that eventually becomes a
large, upright shrub.
'Glauca' - An open, pyramidal tree (Vis. 2) with blue
foliage (Vis. 3).
'Glauca Brevifolia' - Similar to 'Glauca' but with
shorter needles.
'Glauca Nana' - A narrower version of 'Glauca' with
short, blue-green needles (Vis. 5).
'Goldilocks' - The bluish-green needles are flushed with
yellow.
x hakkodensis - A hybrid of P. parviflora and P. pumila.
A slow growing tree reaching a height of about 20 feet.
'Hilleri' - A very dwarf cultivar growing only 3 inches
per year.
'Ibo-can' - The needles are thicker and longer, rough
bark.
'Koko-no-e' - An upright plant with short, dark green
needles.
'Ogon-janome' - Needles with yellow variegations.
'Templehof' - A vigorous tree with bluish foliage.
'Yatsuba' - A dwarf with dense foliage (Vis. 6).
