Ornamental Plants plus Version 3.0 - 00001053
11/12/99
Pennisetum setaceum--Crimson Fountain Grass
Height: 36 in Spacing: 18 in
Type: annual
Flowers: Red
Comments: This annual grass (Vis. 1) is grown for its red to
purple, 8-inch seed heads. Best growth occurs when the
plants are grown in full sun or partial shade. The seed
heads shatter shortly after they mature and so may not be
useful in dried arrangements. Self-seeded volunteers may
become a nuisance in warmer climates.
Propagation: Propagate by seeds.
Cultivars:
'Rubrum' - Dark purple leaves and purplish seed heads.
'Rubrum Dwarf' ('Rubrum Nana') - Same as 'Rubrum' but
more compact.
