Paphiopedilum

Type: house plant

Comments: These terrestrial orchids bloom (Vis. 1) in winter
or spring. Use a terrestrial potting mix or a combination
of fir bark and sphagnum moss. The leaves should be deep
green and rigid. Wrinkled leaves indicate the plants are
getting too much light. Avoid long exposure to direct
sun and do not let the soil mix dry out. There are both
warm and cool types of Paphiopedilum. Warm types have
mottled leaves and need night temperatures between 60 and
65 degrees and day temperatures between 70 and 75 degrees.
The cool types have uniformly green leaves and need night
temperatures of 55 to 60 degrees and day temperatures of
65 to 70 degrees.

Propagation: Propagation is by division.
