Comments: These reliable perennials are grown for their
yellow flowers (Vis. 1) that open during the day. The stems
have a reddish tinge. Grow the plants in a well-drained
soil exposed to full sun. The flowering period can be
extended by removing the fading flowers.
Cultivars:
'Fireworks' ('Feuerwerken')- Red flower buds open to
yellow flowers. The foliage turns reddish in the
fall.
'Highlight' ('Hoheslicht')- Bright yellow flowers 2
inches in diameter.
'Lemon Silver' - O. freemontii. Plants 6 inches tall have
silvery foliage and yellow flowers.
'Solstice' ('Sonnenwende') - Yellow flowers are larger
than the species.
