Ornamental Plants plus Version 3.0 - 00000994

Nigella damascena--Love-in-a-mist
Height: 36 in Spacing: 8 in
Type: annual
Flowers: Blue, pink, white
Comments: The unusual common name refers to the way the
flowers appear through a "nest" of thread-like bracts.
The flowers are followed by round seedpods that may be
used in dried arrangements. Provide a sunny growing area
and a well-drained soil. The short flowering period can
be extended by planting seeds at staggered intervals.
Self-seeded volunteer plants are often seen.
Propagation: Usually by seed sown directly into the garden
as nigella does not transplant well. Germination usually
occurs in about 2 weeks.
