disease problems. A small, weeping tree with
purplish young foliage turning green with age.

'Ormiston Roy'

Fruit: yellow, 3/8 in (Vis. 4)
Comments: Not recommended in Michigan because of
disease problems, especially fire blight. The tree
is upright when young but become more spreading with
age. The fruits persist into late winter.

'Park Centre'

Fruit: yellow
Comments: Fruit drops with the leaves.

'Pink Cascade'

Comments: Not recommended in Michigan because of
disease problems. The foliage is bronze in the
spring.

'Pink Dawn'

Comments: Fruit does not persist into winter.

'Pink Perfection'

disease problems. The yellow fruits are
insignificant.

'Parssi' (Pink Princess TM)

Diseases: Schmidt listed the tree as having
excellent disease resistance.
Comments: The young foliage is purple becoming bronze
green with maturity. A form of Sargent Crab Apple
with pink flowers and colored foliage.

'Pink Spires'

Comments: An upright to oval form that has purplish
foliage in the spring. One of the earliest
cultivars to flower.

'Prairifire'

Diseases: Morton Arboretum and Ohio State list the

Diseases: In MSU research trials, no defoliation

Comments: The orange-red fruits are produced in
abundance. The tree is extremely dense, and the
distinctively colored fruits persist into the
winter.

'Ralph Shay'

Diseases: The leaves may become infected with scab
but not to the point of defoliation.
Comments: The red fruits are produced in abundance

'Red Baron'

Comments: The dark red flowers are displayed on a

Diseases: Schmidt listed scab resistance as fair.
Comments: A weeping form with purple foliage that
becomes purplish-green with age.

'Royal Ruby'

Fruit: red, 3/8 in
Comments: Not recommended in Michigan because of
disease problems. This double-flowered cultivar
produces few fruits.

'Royscezam' (Royal Scepter TM)

Fruit: orange-red, not listed (Vis. 33)
Diseases: Reported as susceptible to scab by Guthery
and Hasselkus.
Comments: An upright tree with double, two-tone
flowers. The flowers open intermittently providing
a longer blooming period. The foliage is wine-red
in summer.

'Royalty'
Height: 15 ft Spread: 15 ft Form: rounded

Fruit: red, 1/2 in
Comments: Not recommended in Michigan because of
disease problems, especially fire blight. A good
choice for purplish foliage, but its use is limited
by diseases susceptibility.
