Larix decidua--European Larch

Hardiness Zones: 2 to 6
Height: 75 ft Spread: 30 ft Form: pyramidal
Type: narrow-leaved deciduous tree
Annual Growth Rate: 12 to 18 inches

Comments: The larches are unusual in that they are
conifers that lose their leaves (Vis. 1) in the fall.
Before the leaves drop they turn a spectacular yellow.
Larches are often the last tree to color in the fall. The
tree grows in swampy conditions and so should have a site
with an adequately moist soil and exposure to full sun.

Cultivars:
'Pendula' - Cultivar with a weeping habit(Vis. 2).
'Varied Directions' - A spreading plant (Vis. 3), wider
than it is tall. Listed as L. x eurolepsis.
