Helenium autumnale--Common Sneezeweed

Hardiness Zones: 3 to 8
Height: 5 ft Spread: 18 in
Type: herbaceous perennial
Flowers: Yellow

Comments: This very tall plant is a native of North
America where it is usually found in moist, low ground.
The yellow flowers have dark centers. Common Sneezeweed
will bloom in late summer and early fall long after most
other perennials have finished flowering. Because the
plants are so tall, some staking may be necessary.
Provide a growing area with moist soil and exposure to
full sun. Stockier plants that produce more flowers can
be obtained by pinching the plants but not later than mid-
June.

Propagation: Seed or division. Division can be done in
the spring and is suggested any time the center of the
clump become bare or the size of the plant needs to be
controlled.

Cultivars:
'Brilliant' - Plants, 3 feet tall, produce many orange
and yellow flowers.
'Butterpat' - Yellow flowers.
'Moerheim Beauty' - The flowers (Vis. 1) open rusty red
then fade to gold as they age.
'Rubinzwerg' - Dark red flowers.
