Ornamental Plants plus Version 3.0 - 00000647
11/12/99
Gaillardia x grandiflora--Blanketflower
Hardiness Zones: 2 to 10
Height: 30 in Spread: 18 in
Type: herbaceous perennial
Flowers: Red, yellow
Comments: These hybrids are the result of a cross between
G. aristata and G. pulchella. The flowers are large and
are often a combination of red and yellow. The plants
grow best in sunny situations having a well-drained soil.
They are useful on dry sites but will be short-lived on
moist, fertile or heavy soils. Remove the flowers as they
fade to keep the plant flowering. Blanketflower is not
long-lived and will have problems with powdery mildew and
aster yellows.
Propagation: Propagate by seed, division or root cuttings.
Division should be done in the spring.
