Dianthus gratianopolitanus--Cheddar Pink

Flowers: Pink, red
Comments: Cheddar Pink (Vis. 2) grows 6 to 12 inches tall
and produces rose colored blooms in May or June. It prefers
sun and grows in soils with a pH above 7. Remove the old
flowers when they fade to extend the blooming period.
Propagation: There are several methods of propagation.
Softwood cuttings may be taken and rooted in early summer.
The plants may be divided, probably in the spring.
Layering may be used. The seed germinates in 5 to 10 days
at 70 degrees.
Cultivars:
'Bath's Pink' - Numerous, fringed, pink, one-inch
flowers are produced on plants (Vis. 1) about 8 inches
tall.
'Firewitch' - Magenta flowers.
var. grandiflorus - Large, pink flowers.
'Oakington' - Double, pink flowers on plants 4 inches
tall.
'Spotty' - Flowers are red and white.
'Tiny Rubies' - Dwarf, 5-inch plants with a mounded
habit produces pink flowers.
