Comments: English Hawthorn tolerates most soils. The main
ornamental feature is white or pink flowers borne in late
spring. Some types produce ornamental scarlet fruits.
The tree casts light shade.
Cultivars:
'Crimson Cloud' ('Superba') - Bright red flowers having
white centers (Vis. 3) are followed by persistent red
fruits. Reported as resistant to leaf spot.
'Paul's Scarlet' - Double, scarlet flowers (Vis. 2)
appear in the spring. Susceptible to leaf spot. The
red fruits are sparsely produced.
