Comments: An unusual and uncommon perennial that grows in
sun or partial shade and prefers moist soil. The plant
produces spikes of dark pink flowers (Vis. 1) in late
summer. Each flower resembles the head of a turtle, hence
the common name. Flower production may be enhanced by
pinching the shoots when they are between 6 and 9 inches
tall.
Propagation: Propagate by division.
Cultivars:
'Hot Lips' - Deep, pink flowers.
lyonii - Rose-pink flowers.
