Caragana arborescens--Siberian Peashrub
Hardiness Zones: 2 to 7
Height: 18 ft Spread: 15 ft Form: oval
Type: deciduous shrub
Annual Growth Rate: 12 to 18 inches
Comments: Peashrub (Vis. 1) is very hardy and useful in
adverse situations. The plant's chief value is its ability
to adapt to poor sites. On better sites, a more ornamental
plant could be selected. The yellow flowers (Vis. 2) are
partially hidden by the foliage. A tolerance of pruning
makes the plant suitable for use in hedges or in screens.
Cultivars:
'Lorbergii' - A graceful shrub with deeply cut fernlike
leaves.
'Pendula' - A small, weeping tree often grafted on a
standard trunk (Vis. 3).
'Walker' - A weeping shrub (Vis. 4) with a height and
spread of 5 feet. The cut foliage has a fern-like
appearance.
