Bellis perennis--English Daisy

Hardiness Zones: 6 to 10
Height: 6 in Spacing: 10 in
Type: herbaceous perennial
Flowers: Red, white, pink

Comments: English Daisies are small plants (Vis. 1)suitable
for rock gardens and edging. Where growing conditions are
favorable they may become weeds. The plants like cool,
moist weather and grow poorly in hot dry weather. Bellis
likes any fertile soil but dislikes clay. Some double
flowered types revert to wild types if not divided
frequently. The flowers close at dusk. The plants can be
grown in zones colder than 6 but must be transferred to a
cold frame for the winter or be treated as an annual.
They may also be grown as biennials but will bloom from
seed the first year if the seeds are started early.

Propagation: Propagation is by seed or division in
autumn. They may be dug and potted after flowering or
transplanted to an out-of-the-way spot. They are
replanted back into the flower bed in fall. The seed
germinates in 1 or 2 weeks at 68 degrees.
