Begonia, fibrous rooted--Angel Wing Begonia
Type: House Plant
Comments: Most flowering, fibrous rooted begonias need
full sun in winter but partial shade during other seasons.
A light fibrous soil is preferred. Begonias prefer a
plentiful moisture supply yet tolerate slight drying
between watering. Use house plant fertilizers, formulated
for flowering plants, according to label directions.
Begonias are sensitive to over fertilization and salt
accumulation in the soil. Ideal temperatures are 65 to 70
degrees during the day and 60 to 65 degrees at night.
Most grow better if supplemental humidity is provided.
The leaf margins die when the humidity is too low.
Straggly plants may be pinched or pruned. Oedema causes
leaf drop in winter or it may also be triggered by heavy
or wet soil. Failure to bloom may be caused by lack of
light or low humidity. Flowering is not dependent on a
particular day length.
Propagation: Propagation is by stem cuttings, leaf
cuttings, leaf section cuttings, or root division. Each
root division must have a shoot.
