Aucuba japonica - Gold Dust Plant
Type: House Plant
Comments: Gold Dust Plant grows well in cool rooms and
sun porches providing medium light, or, filtered or
indirect sunlight. Water the plant well spring through
fall but keep it drier in winter. Pruning may be needed
to keep the plant shapely. Ideal temperatures are between
40 and 60 degrees. The cultivar 'Variegata' has gold
spots on the leaves (Vis. 1).
Propagation: Stem tip cuttings from terminal shoots can
be taken in spring or summer. The cuttings, with 2 or 3
side branches, are rooted in a propagating case. Similar
cuttings can be put in a cold frame in August. The
cuttings root slowly.
