Astilbe chinensis--Chinese Astilbe

Flowers: Purple
Comments: Many of the cultivars of Chinese Astilbe are
dwarf and can be used as a tall ground cover, as an edging
or in the front of the perennial border. Like other
astilbes it prefers a moist soil, however, it does
tolerate dryness better than other astilbes.
Propagation: Propagate by division.
Cultivars:
'Finale' - These 18-inch plants produce light pink
flowers.
'Pumila' - A 10-inch dwarf producing lavender-pink
flowers (Vis. 1).
'Serenade' - Pink flowers on plants two feet tall.
var. taquetti 'Purple Lance' - Pinkish-purple flowers on
4-foot stems.
var. taquetti 'Superba' - A 3-foot tall plant with rose-
purple flowers.
'Veronica Klose' - Dark purple flowers on plants 16
inches tall.
'Visions' - Fourteen-inch plants produce light purple
flowers.
