Annual Growth Rate: 12 to 18 inches
Comments: Acanthopanax (Vis. 2) tolerates shade, dust, rocky
soil, drought and shearing. The thorny (Vis. 6) branches
are upright near the base and arching (Vis. 3) toward the
tips. Acanthopanax holds its leaves (Vis. 4) well into fall
and transplants well. The plant spreads by sucker formation
and can be used on slopes or in a screen. The fruit are not
particularly ornamental (Vis. 5).
Cultivars:
'Variegatus' - Leaves with white edges (Vis. 1).
