Annual Growth Rate: more than 18 inches                     

Comments: The main ornamental feature of Lacebark Elm is    
its mottled bark.  The tree is quite adaptable and can be   
used on adverse sites.  Dutch Elm Disease is usually not a  
problem on Lacebark Elm.                                    

Cultivars:                                                  
   'Athena' - A dense, compact, rounded tree reaching a     
     height and spread of about 40 feet.                    
   'Drake' - Not sufficiently cold hardy for northern       
     climates.                                              
   'Dynasty' - A National Arboretum selection with better   
     orange-yellow fall color.                              
   'Emer I' - (Athena Elm TM) -A broadly rounded tree with  
     orange, gray and brown bark.                           
   'Sempervirens' - Insufficient cold hardiness for         
     northern climates.
