Comments: These low, evergreen shrubs require an acid soil and winter protection. The tubular flowers are produced in mid- to late summer. The plants can be used as ground covers, in borders and rock gardens, and for mass plantings.
Cultivars:
'Atropurpurea' - Purplish pink flowers are produced in
early spring.
'C. D. Eason' - Dark red flowers are produced through
the summer.
'Kramer's Red' - The red flowers are produced in spring.
During the winter the foliage is bronze-green.
'Mediterranean Pink' - Rosy-lavender flowers from summer
through autumn.
'Mediterranean White' - Pure white flowers contrast with
the green foliage.
'Silberschmeize' - A white flowered cultivar.
