2005 Outcomes for Michigan's Future
(A Series of Papers Presented to Michigan's Legislative Results Teams)

Michigan State University Extension (MSUE) and the Michigan Agricultural Experiment Station (MAES) applaud the Michigan Legislature's commitment to framing the state budget around results-oriented priorities. Increased profitability of the state's economic sectors and protection of our quality of life are priorities for all Michigan residents. Reflecting this new budgeting process and anticipating the priorities for Michigan, the MAES and MSUE have considered the research and education needs that relate to the state's vitality.

MSUE and the MAES have the capacity to support statewide intiatives in the following areas that relate directly to a number of the results committees that are being established in the Senate and House. MSU has addressed these needs in a series of papers, titled "Outcomes for Michigan's Future," on the following topics:

Agriculture as a Force for Economic Growth in Michigan

Responsible Use of Michigan's Resources through Research and Education

Reducing Health Care Costs for At Risk Populations

Reducing Preventable Economic Losses in Agriculture and Natural Resources

Ensuring Efficient and Effective Government

Improving Quality of Life for Our Families

Preparing Communities for a New Economy

Ensuring the Safety of Michigan's Citizens through Research and Education

Building Capacity of Youth
