MSU Departments in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resourses house faculty members doing research in fruit. It is useful to look at faculty memebers websites.

Department of Horticulture is one of the leading commercial fruit programs in the country. Be sure and check its outreach page to is what programs are coming up.

Department of Entomology has lots of information on insects, both general information such as beekeeping and insect IPM information.

Department of Plant Pathology covers plant diseases.

fruit_CAT_logo.jpg (3595 bytes)MSU's Fruit IPM Web Site allows searching of back issues of the Fruit Crop Alert Team (CAT) Newsletters. These often include articles about a particular insect pest or disease.  The Fruit CAT Newsletter is available both by mail and online.

ApplesThe Clarksville Horticultural Extension Station web site contains Apple IPM information, West Central Michigan fruit information and information on experiments at the Clarksville Station. It is maintained by Phil Schawallier.

Peaches are a major crop in the SouthwestThe Southwest Michigan Research & Extension Center, near Benton Harbor, has a web site maintained by Bill Shane.

Cherries are a major crop in the NorthwestThe Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Station, maintained by Bill Klein, is strong in cherries. This site has many articles of interest to cherry growers.

The Trevor Nichol Research Complex located near Fenneville is dedicated to researching fruit pest and disease control.

Grapes are a major crop in the SouthwestThe Van Buren County Fruit Pages maintained by Mark Longstroth is the best fruit site in the state.  This site is especially strong in small fruits. It also has many files related to tree fruit insect pests, and an archive of Southwestern Michigan fruit growing conditions from 1997 on.

The MSU Center for Integrated Plant Systems has a wealth of articles dealing with pesticides and FQPA. 
The Small Fruit Entomology website is off the CIPS site. Much of the Center's work has been funded from GREEEN.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture has an excellent site with lots of general information and links to national statistical databases.

The Michigan State Horticultural Society represents Michigan's commercial fruit growers and co-sponsors the Great Lakes Fruit, Vegetable and Farm Marketing Exposition.

The Benton Harbor Fruit Market is a wholesale market located in Southwest Michigan.  They post the current prices for wholesale fruit and vegetables sold on the market.

ApplesThe Michigan Apple Committee maintains a web site with links to Michigan apple shippers, listings of Cider Mills, farms with road side sales, and all kinds of information on apples. 

BlueberriesThe Michigan Blueberry Growers Marketing markets blueberries for many Michigan blueberry growers.

 

CherriesThe Cherry Marketing Institute has lots of information on cherries for consumers, commercial buyers and growers.
