Every Body is Good
Every Body is Good Curriculum (EBIG) is a set of lessons designed for use by any teacher to promote healthy weight and a positive body image in students. There are two 20-minute lessons for each grade K-6, two lessons for 7th and 8th grades, and two lessons for 9th-12th grades.

Family Bookbag
The Eat Healthy. Play Hard. Read More. Family Bookbag is for children in grades K-2 and can be used in classrooms, out-of-school-time programs, home-visiting programs or any other programs that serve children in this age group. The Family Bookbag program was created so that children and their families can have fun reading together at home, while at the same time learning about eating healthy and being physically active.

Healthy Kids Healthy Weight
Tips for "Families with Kids of all Shapes and Sizes - These fact sheets were desiged to provide tips for families of school-age children on eathing healthy and being physically active. This publication was a collaboration between the Michigan Department of Community Health and the Michigan Department of Education with input from a variety of organizations. The fact sheets can be downloaded by choosing the topic of choice from the list provided at the Web site.

Michigan Team Nutrition Booklist
Our booklist contains short, one-paragraph annotations for over 300 books about food, healthy eating, and physical activity for children in pre-school through third grade. A 23-page, Search-By-Theme cross-reference section allows the user to search for books related to a specific theme such as Fruits and Vegetables, Dairy, Breakfast, ABCs, Pizza, Soup-making, Outside Activity, Counting and Math, Spanish Translations and more.

This list has numerous suggestions for nutrition education activities for the classroom, cafeteria, school-wide, for school staff and at home. The list was developed by the Michigan Department of Education and Michigan Department of Community Health for use by the 2004-05 Fruit and Vegetable grantee schools.

  • Healthy School Action Tool Facilitator Power Point - This presentation is for trained HSAT facilitators to use when working with school teams and was presented to you during your HSAT facilitator training. This will help your team understand the need to make the case for creating a healthy school environment and how to accomplish this.

    Dayle Hayes, MS, RD, is an award winning author, educator and pioneer dietitian in electronic communications. She has been the keynote speaker at many Michigan conferences, including the 2002 Michigan Team Nutrition Workshop and the 2005 Eat Healthy + Play Hard = Smart Students conference. This series of PowerPoint presentations outline the benefits of promoting nutrition in schools, provide information getting started and building a strong team, as well as highlight facts and research supporting the need for school nutrition programs.

    Children's Health: A Call to Action, What Schools Can Do - This is a "Show to Go" presentation designed to educate school boards, school administration, teachers, nurses, counselors, food service, coaches, community organizations, parent groups, and others on current overweight and obesity trends, the challenge ahead and a call to action. This is a great tool to use when educating others on the importance of addressing children's health and seeking action. The presentation is designed to take about 15-25 minutes and includes speaker notes. There are presenter and audience evaluations. Please complete the presenter evaluation and fax back to the number listed on the form. This presentation was developed by West Michigan Action for Healthy Kids, March 2005.

    The Pyramids Between the Pages Mini-pack is a take-and-teach curriculum that links the development of beginning literacy skills with nutrition and physical activity education and promotion.     Pyramids Between the Pages for the Young Child Leader's Guide
    Pyramids Between the Pages for the Young Child Leader's Guide provides four nutrition education lessons for children ages 2 to 5 that use books with positive messages about food or physical activity. The lessons also teach early literacy skills and can be used by parents, caregivers and/or educators.


    School Meals Handout
    The MDE School Meals fact sheet is designed to assist shcool foodservice professionals share the "story" of school meals in Michigan. The first page highlights just how many children participate and are nurished by the National School Lunch Program. The second page highlights how school meals fit in with the "other" venues in schools where food is sold and given away.
