Grants Offered by Michigan Team Nutrition and Partners

The Michigan State University Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN), National Food Safety and Toxicology Center (NFSTC) and MSU Extension (MSUE) are pleased to announce the availability of the 2007 Consumer Food Safety Education mini-grant funding. The aim of the mini-grant program is to improve the food safety knowledge and practices of Michigan consumers. Mini-grant funding of up to $5,000 per project is available. We anticipate funding approximately eight projects in 2007. Details of the Request for Proposal (RFP), as well as brief summaries of previously awarded mini-grants are available online at http://fooddomain.msu.edu/mdafund.asp. Other Grant Opportunities

The ADA Foundation is proud to announce that grant applications are now being accepted for the Champions for Healthy Kids Grants, a partnership of the General Mills Foundation, the American Dietetic Association Foundation and the President’s Challenge. Fifty grants of $10,000 each will be made to schools, community groups and other non-profit organizations with innovative programs aimed at improving the nutrition and activity habits of young people. The involvement of a registered dietitian or dietetics technician, registered is a requirement for each program. The 2007 Champions for Healthy Kids grant application is available online at http://www.generalmills.com/corporate/ commitment/champions.aspx The application deadline is February 1, 2007; grants will be awarded in May 2007.

The Women’s Sports Foundation’s GoGirlGo! program will award a third round of $2,500 Ambassador Team grants for projects that encourage girls to become physically active. School, amateur, community or nonprofit-affiliated sports teams whose members are female, enrolled in 9th through 12th grade, and at least 13 years old are eligible to apply. Nickelodeon’s Let’s Just Play initiative will be awarding funding to support schools or after-school community-based organizations that promote play and physical activity. Let’s Just Play is a multi-media and grassroots campaign to encourage children to adopt healthy lifestyles. Entries for the giveaway must be received by December 31st. Detroit Lions Charities is accepting applications for its grant program, which supports programs that benefit Michigan residents in the areas of education, health, human services and civic affairs. Although grants can be made for programs serving all age groups, special emphasis is placed on programs benefiting children and youth. NIKE Bowerman Track Renovation Program - Deadline for Applications-Ongoing through May 31, 2009. The Bowerman Track Renovation Program provides matching cash grants to community-based, youth-oriented organizations that seek to refurbish or construct running tracks. The program distributes approximately $200,000 in matching grants each year. This 10-year, $2 million program, administered by Nike's Community Affairs department, provides matching funds of up to $50,000 to youth-oriented nonprofit organizations anywhere in the world.
