Red Cabbage and Apples 
Adapted from Pillsbury Kitchens’ Family Cookbook 

4 cups shredded red cabbage 
2 sour apples, diced 
1 small onion, sliced 
1 to 2 tablespoons bacon fat 
1 cup water or stock 
3 tablespoons vinegar 
1 tablespoon brown sugar 
1/4 teaspoon allspice 
2 cloves 

1. Brown onion slighly in fat. 
2. Add water or stock, cabbage, and apple. 
4. When nearly done, add vinegar, sugar, and spices.
