Milk is one of the safest foods. In the dairy plant it is never touched by human hands. That is why milk stays very pure and fresh tasting. More than a dozen tests are run to make sure the milk is safe, free of harmful bacteria and of the finest quality possible. Every milk truck is also tested for antibiotics to make sure that these do not get into your milk. After it is tested and determined safe, the milk is pumped into a processing machine that will pasteurize and homogenize it. Milk is also pasteurized in dairy plants. Pasteurization is the process of heating milk to kill any harmful bacteria and to increase its time of freshness. Pasteurization does not reduce the quality of the milk. Because milk is perishable, you can help keep it safe by refrigerating it at 40 degrees F or less. The "REAL" Seal was developed by the California Milk Advisory Board in 1976 as a public service to help consumers easily identify real dairy foods. Today, the federally registered "REAL" Seal trademark is administered by Dairy Management Inc. to help consumers distinguish between genuine dairy products and imitations at a glance. The stylized milk drop surrounding the simple word "REAL" is a well recognized symbol of pure dairy goodness. The "REAL" Seal can be found on many of your favorite dairy and pizza products. The "REAL" Seal may only be placed on packages containing real dairy foods. The contents must meet minimum government standards for the product category in order to display the seal. |
