Citizenship, Leadership & Service

YEA Community Service Recognition Program

Community ServiceEach year, the Michigan State 4-H Youth Development Programming Committee recognizes groups and individuals who have designed, organized and implemented community service programs. The YEA (Youth Experiencing Action) program is a great opportunity to recognize the work that is happening in response to “Make a Difference Day” and other community service programs.

Any 4-H’er, 4-H group or service club that has been involved in a community service project during the programming year is eligible to apply. The requirements are that the project:

  • Primarily benefits people who are outside of 4-H. Service that primarily helps someone’s own 4-H club or county 4-H program should not be included.
  • Is conducted by participants who are registered 4-H members and volunteers.
  • If clubs do multiple service projects, combine all projects into one application.

Participants will be recognized in the “YEA Community Recognition” booklet that is distributed to counties each year. The publication describes each community service project and lists the names of all individual and group participants. Each club listed receives 3 to 5 copies of the recognition booklet. Application information and forms are sent to county MSU Extension office in the fall, with applications due early in the following year. Consider this recognition opportunity for any 4-H groups you work with if they’re involved in community service projects!
