Overview

Operation: Military Kids (OMK) is an ongoing community support system for families, particularly children of parents in The National Guard and the Army Reserves. It provides an outlet system with recreational, educational and social backgrounds to military youth. It helps children to deal their parents being in a risky atmosphere. OMK is a 4-H program which joins with the school and community to educate and facilitate so that public will be aware of what the children may be going through. Many children in Michigan have one and sometimes both parents called into action. They can be gone from one to eighteen months.

Michigan was awarded the Operation: Military Kids grant on October 1, 2005. The grant has a total length of two years to help the children of parents who are in the Army National Guard and the Army Reserve. Through community help and volunteerism, Operation: Military Kids hopes to continue an ongoing success with developing a welcoming, supporting atmosphere for the children of military families.
