Make
a "Don't Start" Frog Key Chain
Make
a key chain that symbolizes 4-H efforts to prevent youth from using
tobacco.
Materials:
- Beads (can
be seed or E-beads in the following colors: forest green, light
green and red)
- Beading wire
- Key ring
Time:
45 minutes
Procedure:
To make a 4-H
"Don't Start" frog key chain:
1.
Cut one piece of beading wire 24 inches long.
2. Make
a small loop around the key ring and twist twice, making sure that
the two ends of the wire are even when you are done.
3. Row
one: Separate the two wires, then string two of the light green
beads and draw the left wire through, pulling the wires until the
beads are centered under the twist. Pull until the beads are gently
sitting next to each other.
4. Row
two: String three beads (red, light green, red) and repeat the
process above.
5. Row
three: Needs four beads in light green. Repeat the process above.
6. After
row three is done, you need to make the arms of the frog. Get six
light green beads for each arm. Choose one arm to start. On that
arm string six of the beads. After the six beads are strung, count
three beads from the last one you put on and take the wire and pull
it through the last three. Repeat the process for the other arm.
7. Row
four: Uses five beads (light green, forest green, light green,
forest green, light green) and works just like row three.
8. Repeat
this process for row five with five beads (two light green,
one forest green and two light green). Row six has five beads
(light green, forest green, light green, forest green, light green).
Row seven has four light green beads.
9. After
row seven, there should be extra wire left for the legs of the frog.
You need eight light green beads and one red bead for each leg.
The legs work just like the arms. Choose a leg and string seven
of the light green beads, the red bead, and then the last light
green bead. Take the wire and count back three beads to the first
green bead and past the red one. Pass the second green bead through
the extra wire and weave it until there is no more extra wire hanging.
Repeat for the second leg.
10. Enjoy
your new creation! Another great idea: Make several to give out
as tokens that support the "Don't Start" message to other young
people and adults.
