National 4-H Conference

2008 National 4-H Conference
Our Changing World
March 29 – April 3, 2008

National 4-H Conference BannersNational 4-H Conference will be held, March 29 - April 3, 2008 at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center, Chevy Chase, Maryland.  Apply to become a part of Michigan's delegation.

Purpose of the National 4-H Conference

The National 4-H Conference is the Secretary of Agriculture's premier youth development opportunity to engage teens in developing recommendations for the 4-H Youth Development Program. The National 4-H Conference is a working conference in which youth and adults—at the invitation of the Secretary of Agriculture—assist in the development of recommendations to help guide 4-H Youth Development Programs nationally and in their communities.  This event brings together youth, volunteer leaders, and state and Extension staff members from across the United States, the U.S. Territories, and the Canadian Provinces.

Conference Dates

The 2008 National 4-H Conference dates are Saturday, March 29 to Thursday, April 3, 2008, with Capitol Hill Day on Wednesday, April 2. Delegates will travel on the 29th and register that afternoon or evening and will depart after breakfast on April 3.

To Apply

If you would like to attend National 4-H Conference, please complete the forms listed below and return them to your MSU Extension county office by December 4, 2007.  Michigan will be sending a team of 5 teens and 1 adult to the conference.  Each teen attending must complete the application, 2 reference forms and participate in a telephone interview.

The following forms are available in Microsoft Word format:

Michigan's 2006 Teen Delegation

Michigan's 2006 Teen Delegation

Selection process:

Final applicants will need to participate in a telephone interview.  The selection committee will consist of the 4-H Program Leader, Former National Conference Attendees and the Co-Chair of the 4-H Citizenship, Leadership and Service Priority Team.

Costs:

The cost is $650 for teens and includes registration, meals, lodging, fees and airfare from the Detroit Metropolitian Airport and is due to the county office by February 1, 2008. This reduced cost is made possible because of a scholarship provided by the State 4-H Office.
