Winning Job Interviews
There are three parts to the interview process, before, during and after.
Winning Job Interviews (Adobe Acrobat PDF format) presents some helpful points to follow to help make your interview experience a positive one.
Career Fair Interviewing and More Activity
The Career Fair Interviewing and More Activity includes the use of a helpful PowerPoint presentation, Winning Job Interviews handout, informational interviewing questions, business handshake activity and sample interview questions. Use parts or all of the pieces of the activity, depending on your audience and how much time you have. You can download the complete Career Fair Interviewing and More Activity including handouts in PDF format at http://web1.msue.msu.edu/cyf/youth/careers/CF-InterviewingMoreActivity-Complete.pdf. To download several of the handouts as Microsoft Word files that you can modify for your own needs, go to the Resources for Educators and Volunteers page. You will also need to download the following Career Fair Interviewing and More PowerPoint presentation.
Career Fair Interviewing and More PowerPoint
The Career Fair Interviewing and More PowerPoint was originally created by Jackie Martin, MSU Extension, Eaton County, and was used as part of a resume building and interview preparation workshop she held on Thursday, May 25, 2006. Read all about it in the Fall 2006 Michigan 4-H Today article, "Eaton County MSUE Launches Career Development Workshop."
This version of the Career Fair Interviewing and More PowerPoint was modified to use at the 2006 4-H Exploration Days Touch the Future Career Fair session. It can be a helpful presentation tool if you’re offering a career fair or using it separately with a group who wants to learn more about interviewing. Feel free to modify the PowerPoint presentation to meet the needs of your audience.
Sample Interview Questions
The Sample Interview Questions handout (Adobe Acrobat PDF format) was adapted from an MSU Career Services and Placement document by Jackie Martin, MSU Extension, Eaton County. Jackie used the handout with youth attending her resume building and interview preparation workshop.
A marching band puts much training time into a performance. The members are more confident when they step out on the playing field, because they have practiced and know what to expect. In the same way, knowing the types of questions you might be asked in an interview can help you be more prepared and comfortable in an interview setting. Use the sample list to practice your responses. Write your answers down and read them before an interview to help you feel more prepared. You can also ask someone to help you by doing a “mock interview.” Have a friend help you practice by asking you the questions, and then he or she can give you feedback on your responses.
