Exploring Careers

Exploring Careers
After High School
Entrepreneurship The Job Resources

Finding work that’s right for us and makes us happy is important because the reality is that most of us will spend the best part of our day on the job. What careers are out there? What career is a good fit? If these are questions you’re asking, then this is the place for you. Here you’ll find interactive tools and activities to help you explore the world of careers.

Career Exploration Tools

The Career Exploration Tools area provides links to Web sites to help guide you through your personal career exploration and tools to help you explore what career fits your personal interests.

Career Exploration Activities

In addition to reading books or exploring careers online, there are other programs and activities to consider for learning more about career exploration. This section of the Web site connects you to programs that expand your knowledge of a career area by providing you with a closer look at specific areas you’re interested in. Job shadowing or career fairs where you talk one-on-one with professionals to get answers to your questions about a particular area of work are also great ways to explore careers.

Pre-College Programs and Online Resources

Pre-College Programs offer a wonderful opportunity to briefly explore a particular career or academic area to see if it’s worth a closer look. For example, a Pre-College Program exploring Agriculture and Natural Resources may explore farming, food and agricultural sciences, agricultural engineering, environmental and natural resources management and more. The point is to provide exposure to a broad area and show the many options available.

Online Resources provide quick and easy access to lots of information about many jobs and careers available. They are obtained by simply sitting at a computer and looking at various Web sites. Online Resources can be fun and eye-catching and are a nice compliment to other career exploration activities.
