The following is a list of state and regional 4-H events scheduled from October 2005 to September 2006. The listing includes what the event is, when and where it will be held, who is eligible to attend and the deadline for registrations to arrive. The information was accurate as this issue went to press. Unless otherwise indicated, check with your county 4-H staff for your county registration deadlines and other details.

OCTOBER 2005

  • 4-H Performing Arts Workshop. October 1–2 at Kettunen Center. Open to adult and teen volunteer leaders aged 13 and up. Register by September 16.
  • Michigan 4-H Foundation Annual Membership Meeting. October 7, 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the MSU Kellogg Center. Call (517) 353-6692 for more information.
  • 4-H Clothing & Textiles and Food, Nutrition & Fitness Workshop. October 15–16 at Kettunen Center. Open to new and experienced adult and teen volunteers aged 13 and up. Register by September 30.

  • North Central Regional Volunteer Forum. November 10-13, Rapid City, South Dakota. Contact your county office for registration materials. Registration by October 28.
  • 4-H Adult Horse Volunteer Conference. November 11–13 at Kettunen Center. Open to 4-H horse project adult volunteers aged 19 and up. Register by October 21.

DECEMBER 2005

  • 4-H Peer Plus for Teen Leadership Workshop. December 2–4 at Kettunen Center. Open to teens and adults aged 14 and up. Register by November 18.
  • Michigan Junior Livestock Society Winter Classic Beef Show. December 10-11 at the MSU Pavilion. Open to youth from Michigan. Includes steer and heifer show and educational events. JANUARY 2006

  • 4-H Horse Judges & Superintendents Conference. January 20–22 at Kettunen Center. Open to Michigan 4-H horse project regular and conditional judges, Extension staff, 4-H horse judges advisory committee members, State 4-H Horse Show committee members and one horse superintendent or representative per county.   • 4-H Beef, Sheep & Swine Teen & Adult Volunteer Workshop. February 25–26 at Kettunen Center. Open to adult and teen volunteers aged 13 and up. Register by February 10.

MARCH 2006

  • North Regional Horse Bowl Contest. March date and location to be announced. Open to young people from the north region who are interested in horses. Contact Karen Waite at kwaite@msu.edu for details.
  • Upper Peninsula Regional Bowl Contest. March date in Menominee County to be announced. Open to young people from the Upper Peninsula who are interested in horses. Contact Karen Waite at kwaite@msu.edu for details.
  • 4-H & FFA Crop-O-Rama. March date to be announced at MSU Plant and Soil Sciences Building. Open to 4-H and FFA members through age 19.
  • Southwest Regional Horse Bowl Contest. March date and location to be announced. Open to young people from the southwest region who are interested in horses. Contact Karen Waite at kwaite@msu.edu for details.
  • 4-H Environmental & Outdoor Education Adult & Teen Volunteer Training. March 4–5 at Kettunen Center. Open to adults and youth aged 13 and up. Register by February 17.
  • Agriculture & Natural Resources (ANR) Week. March 3-11 at MSU. Open to all. Contact your county MSU Extension office for details or find out more at http://www.canr.msu.edu/anrweek/.

  • 4-H Family Weekend: Journey to the Deep Blue Sea. March 18–19 at Kettunen Center. Designed for and open to families with children aged 5 to 12. Register by March 3.
  • 4-H Capitol Experience. March 19-22 in Lansing. Open to 4-H teens aged 15 to 19, and to adult chaperons. Application deadline in January.
  • 4-H Plant Science & Entomology Workshop. March 24–26 at Kettunen Center. Open to adult volunteers and 4-H’ers aged 12 and up. Register by March 10.
  • 4-H/AHAM Horse Clinic. March 26 at the MSU Pavilion. Co-Sponsored by 4-H and the Arabian Horse Association of Michigan. Open to all. Contact Karen Waite at kwaite@msu.edu for details.

APRIL 2006

  • 4-H Global Festival Workshop. April 1–2 at Kettunen Center. Open to adult and teen volunteers aged 13 and up. Register by March 17.
  • 4-H Poultry Volunteer Workshop. April 7–8 at Kettunen Center. Open to adult and teen volunteers aged 13 and up. Register by March 24.

  • Block & Bridle Youth Livestock Judging Contest. April 9 at the MSU Pavilion. Open to all 4-H and FFA youth. Contact the Block & Bridle Club office at (517) 355-8407 for details. (The office is student run so be prepared to leave a message.)
  • State FFA Ag Skills Contests. April 21, at MSU. Open to FFA and 4-H members; spectators welcome. Contact Jeff Hawes, State FFA Office at (517) 353-9221 for details.
  • Michigan 4-H Dairy Conference. April 21–23 at Kettunen Center. Open to youth aged 12 and up. Register by March 7.
  • 4-H State Horse Bowl Contest. April 22. Open to eligible teams from regional qualifiers and all individuals. Contact Karen Waite at kwaite@msu.edu for details.
  • 4-H Horse Jamboree Hippology and Judging Contests. April 22 at MSU. Open to all youth interested in competing in hippology and horse judging. Contact Karen Waite at kwaite@msu.edu for details.

  • 4-H Companion Animal Volunteer Workshop. April 22–23 at Kettunen Center. Open to 4-H volunteers aged 12 and up.
  • 4-H Shooting Sports Volunteer Training Workshop. April 27–30 at Kettunen Center. Open to new and veteran adult volunteers and youth aged 16 and up. Register by April 14.

MAY 2006

  • Michigan Envirothon. May date to be announced at the Fort Custer Training Center near Battle Creek. Open to four- and five-person teams of 9th- to 12th-grade students.   • 4-H Exploration Days. June 21–23 at MSU. Open to youth aged 11 and up and to adult chaperons. The registration book will be available online at and from county MSU Extension offices by mid-March. Register by May 5.
  • Michigan 4-H Awards Assembly. June 21–22 at MSU. Open to state 4-H award nominees aged 13 and up by January 1, 2006. Register by May 5.
  • State 4-H Goat Show. June 24 at the MSU Pavilion. Open to 4-H members aged 9 to 19.
  • 4-H MMPA Milk Marketing Tour. June 27-28 at Novi. Free and open to 4-H dairy project members aged 15 to 19.

JULY 2006

  • State 4-H/FFA Livestock Judging Contest. July date to be announced at the MSU Pavilion. Open to 4-H and FFA members. Contact Carla McLachlan at mclachl2@msu.edu for details.

  • 4-H Great Lakes & Natural Resources Camp. July 30 to August 5 at Camp Chickagami in Presque Isle County. Open to 60 Michigan teens who will be aged 13 to 15 on July 1, 2006.

AUGUST 2006

  • State 4-H Horse Show. August date to be announced at the MSU Pavilion. Open to selected 4-H county delegates; spectators welcome.
  • 4-H State Shooting Sports Tournament. August date to be announced in St. Joseph County. Open to all 4-H shooting sports members aged 9 to 19; spectators welcome.
  • State 4-H Dog Show. August 12 at the MSU Pavilion. Open to all 4-H dog members; spectators welcome.

SEPTEMBER 2006

  • 4-H Standardbred Show & Sale. September date and location to be announced. Open to participants in the Michigan 4-H Standardbred project; spectators welcome.
