4-H’ers become golfers, too, in Charlevoix County

By Sue Shenk

4-H golf participants as they spend a session at Ye Nine Olde Holles for a golf play day.4-H’ers aged 7 to 16 in Charlevoix County had the chance to learn a new sport when golf was added to the 2004 summer 4-H program. Four one-week sessions of 4-H golf for beginners and advanced juniors were held at Ye Nyne Olde Holles Golf Club in East Jordan. The course emphasized skill building and sportsmanship, as well as responsibility, etiquette and honesty. The 4-H golf program was funded in part by an “innovative 4-H programs grant” from the Michigan 4-H Foundation.

Pictured are 4-H golf participants as they spend a session at Ye Nine Olde Holles for a golf play day.

Sue Shenk is a CYF/4-H Youth Extension educator in Charlevoix County.
